About

The Beginnings

That Gypsy House started out as a little bricks and mortar store in the rural sugar cane town of Ingham, North Queensland.  From humble beginnings it grew and due to demand it is now fully online only.

I've always had a passion for being 'different' and living an alternative lifestyle and I wanted to offer a 'hippie shop' (as the locals called it) in my town.  So, the dream began.

What That Gypsy House Is About

That Gypsy House (or TGH as known by the locals) prides itself on supporting products that are Fair Trade, Eco-friendly, sustainable, organic, natural, cruelty free and ethically made and sourced.  I stock an eclectic range of products that tick all the right boxes.  From hand-crafted jewellery and organic skin and hair care to boho homewares.

What I do

I am a big believer in nature's gifts, and I am qualified in clinical aromatherapy, therefor you will find a collection of plant-based products including hand-poured blends for many and varied ailments.  I promote cruelty-free, vegan and organic products for your body and your mind.  I love aromatherapy, herbal medicines and natural remedies - browse the range for yourself!

Who Am I

My name is Tanya, and I am a Reiki practitioner, massage therapist and qualified aromatherapist.  I live in the bush at the base of the mountains in tropical North Queenland.  I have two very busy little boys, aged 9 and 7 years, of which I homeschool at our property.  Together as a family we enjoy growing a vegetable garden and are blessed with fresh, seasonal produce, tropical fruits, an abundance of herbs and a large flock of very cheeky chooks for farm fresh, free-range eggs.   We live the simple life and wouldn't have it any other way!

Growing Up

I was raised on a small farm on the beautiful Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland.  My late Dad grew an amazing array of vegetables and was well known in our local community for having ‘the best produce’.  I guess my love for nature and simple living began there on our little farm as I watched Dad toil every day in the paddocks to provide for his family.  Dad grew everything we ate, and Mum cooked everything from scratch.  We were a clan of five siblings, and we lived simply and worked hard.  We helped in the paddock from an early age and never thought twice about it.  What we didn’t grow ourselves Dad bartered with the neighbouring farms for, and we would sometimes have fresh cow’s milk, some peaches or avocados.  Life was simple and growing up on the farm was the obsolute best.

And Then...

In my early years I moved around continuously, never seeming to settle in one place for very long.  I guess I’ve always had a tad ‘gypsy’ in me all along.  Because of this, I did get to experience many different places and ways of life.  From a remote cattle station to an off-the-grid mining camp, to a roof-top parties in Sydney, I saw plenty.  I owned and operated a new age store on the Atherton Tablelands for a number of years before getting the itch again and closing it to travel and experience the outback, attending festivals and shows along the way. Meeting so many beautiful and spiritual people over the years inspired me to deepen my love for all things natural and I began my studies.

And Now..

These days not only am I running a home-based business as well as homeschooling two children, tending to our farm, gardens, chickens and keeping house, but I am also completing a practitioner's course in Australian Bush Flower Essences by Ian White. Once qualified, I will be offering online consultations right here on my site and will be able to blend an essence specific to your needs.  Stay tuned and check back regularly and be the first to experience these wonderful remedies that nature has provided.
